Home cooking was traditionally passed down from mothers to daughters, but culinary knowledge was also passed down from skippers to young sailors, and from group leaders to young colliers, as both groups spent long hours far from home and had to procure and prepare their own food.

La cuina casolana s’ha transmès tradicionalment de mares a filles, però el saber culinari també s’ha transmès de patrons de barcada a joves mariners, o de caps de colla a joves carboners, donat que tant els uns com els altres passaven moltes hores fora de casa i s’havien de procurar i preparar el seu propi menjar.
