It seems that the reason why plants that produce fruits which were not so photosynthetically active were selected in a certain moment is that in some greenhouse conditions, the fruit having an excess of chloroplasts can cause a series of undesired effects: it is likely because of the photo-oxidation, in conditions where there is an excess of light, that alterations in the ripening are produced and the part of the fibres do not ripen adequately.

Sembla que el motiu pel qual es van seleccionar en un moment determinat plantes que produeixen fruits que no eren tan fotosintèticament actius és perquè en determinades condicions d’hivernacle, el fet que el fruit tinga excés de cloroplasts pot produir una sèrie d’efectes no desitjats: segurament a causa de la fotooxidació, en condicions en les quals hi ha un excés de llum, es produeixen alteracions en la maduració i la part dels muscles no acaba de madurar adequadament.
